This gorgeous “semi-works” TVR Tuscan V8 with 5.4 Litre engine was owned by famous pilot Brian Hough, head at Mayfield Motors in Wallasey, Cheshire (official currently TVR dealer). Hough started racing in 1960 with an ex-F2 1953 Cooper Bristol which sported a Williams amd Pritchard sports car body and scored a few wins at Oulton Park and Aintree until having a serious accident at Oulton in 1961 when the front wishbone collapsed.

The car was rebuilt and after a one win in 1962 it was sold. Hough then gave up motor racing until 1965 when he raced a Cooper BMC with disappointing results and when that was sold he retired from racing until 1969 whrn his 3 litres V6 engine TVR Tuscan first appeared. After successes in local meetings, Hough concentrated on the Modsport Championship in 1971 and won both STP and Chevron Oil championships as well as winning the BARC’s President Cup.

That car was then sold to Ed Stephens and Brian Hough took the helm of the bigger Ian Richardson engined TVR Tuscan V8. Originally belonging to Richard Taft and Ted Worswick, the 180mph TVR Tuscan V8 was taken on by Brian for the 1973 season, with the intention of producing the ultimate Modsports car. Acquiring a big arch, lightweight body and a more powerful Ford V8 engine (looked after by another famous racer, Ian Richardson, the car started to win races and break lap records almost immediately. It broke Brian’s locals circuit’s (Aintree) Modsport lap record on two successive weekends. Brian shared the over 3000cc class title in the 1973 Blue Circle Modsports with his great rival, John Pearson who drove a Jaguar XK120. The picture below shows the car at a Ford Sports Day ay Croft in early October 1973, the car being entered as a TVR/Cobra – maybe to comply with the GT40, Ford powered V8 saloon requirement, Brian Hough won the race. But on 28 October 1973 at Kimpton bend slong Thruxton race, Brian Hough was tragically killed.
