Passion for TVR: when the heart speaks

Here is the thinking of a typical TVR enthusiast we found in TVR Piston Heads forum. It’s one of the best speech we have had the chance to read:

For many of us, TVR cars fuel our passion for things automotive. As a matter of fact, many piston heads came to this site because of this passion for TVR cars. While all of us here who are adults have known for some years that TVRs are cars that have bits falling off, we are still thrilled by them. TVRs are, and have always been driver’s cars. As nobody that was a status seeker even recognized what a TVR was until Mr. Wheeler was getting ready to sell to the Russian, it was almost guaranteed that the buyers of TVR cars were interested in the enjoyment of a sports car. This is the heritage of TVR; this is what TVRs have always been –sports cars! Of the few products brought to market by a handful of sports car manufacturers, those that have been continuously exciting TO ME have, almost exclusively, come from TVR for the past fifteen years. TVRs are great sports cars. These cars have been built by people with a deep passion for their chosen endeavor. Passion was the motivating force that made also MV Augustas great motor cycles. The products of the efforts of the people who made TVRs are things that are visceral, loud, raucous, often antisocial and frequently obnoxious. A definition for a sports car, that I read a long time ago and still like best, is “a racing car with the addition of sufficient comforts for road use.” Few “sports cars” that are actually in production fit this definition as well as TVRs. For those who say that Porsches are better cars than TVRs, here is something to consider. A car is a machine and as such, is a product designed for a purpose. Porsches, with the possible exception of the little Boxter, are magnificently capable GT cars. GT, for those who have read it on too many subcompact/economy rear ends, stands for Grand Touring. Face the fact that this is what Porsche autos have evolved into. While BMW built magnificent sedans and Porsche made brilliant GTs, TVR carved, by hand, GREAT sports cars. So be glad that it is Nikolai Smolenski that owns TVR and not Ford or VW. I hope TVR again start to build sports cars! I hope TVR again start to build cars that are visceral, loud, raucous, often antisocial and frequently obnoxious. All the best,
Bernard.
